Ultrasound for a teenager's PIP joint - is it safe?

I'm currently treating a teenager who had an intra-articular head of proximal phalanx fracture treated with screw fixation. The epiphysis in the joint (base of middle phalanx) has now closed however all of their other epiphysis' remain open. Is it safe to complete ultrasound on this joint?
