PEMF Therapy on a leg with metal rod

Hi, I have just purchased a PEMF Therapy machine for myself and family. It has a hand held wand. My husband had a metal rod placed in his leg approx 12 months ago, as a result of a badly shattered leg in a motorcycle accident. Is it ok to use the PEMFT on him? Not over the rod, but on his shoulders/lower back?....or will the PEMF cause the rod in his leg to heat up? I cant find any solid information about this so far, and would hate to cause any damage to my husband!

Thank you in advance for any help given. Debbie
